Thank You To All Those Who Donated!!!

We couldn't do this without you!

Nurses on the Move INC (a NAHN Houston Chapter initiative) is thankful for its medical mission donors and sponsors throughout the years. This year we visited Colombia and are so grateful to you for helping us make it happen! I hope you continue to support our mission and vision in aiding our Hispanic community. We were in need of monetary support and item donations for our trip...you heard us and delivered! THANK YOU!!!

The mission trip was a success, and we would like to draw attention to special moments of this trip:

  1. We visited Manati Hospital, Repelon, Villa Rosa, and Ponedera
  2. We had the honor of partnering with local Colombian Nurses
  3. We purchased medical supplies and equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, and shower chairs to beyond grateful residents – allowing them to feel comfortable and remove urine saturated mattresses, and allowing them to safely shower
  4. We provided support and education for an alarming number of young pregnant girls.

"This lady was in the house by herself locked in waiting for her daughter to show up at home so we could come in and assess her. We found her on the floor. She couldn’t get up. But with the help of the students we assessed her. We tried to talk to her but she was scared to death. She wouldn’t talk

Announcements

Good News!!!

We are overjoyed to share that, as a result of our last nursing medical mission to Barranquilla, Colombia in 2024, we have officially sponsored 27 children!

Thanks to the generosity and support of our incredible community, these children started school just two weeks ago—something that would not have been possible without this sponsorship. Last year we were able to provide Colombian residence access to healthcare and essential resources, but also access to Education!

The Legacy of Gloria Velez Alvarez

The Legacy of Gloria Velez Alvarez

Let me tell you a little bit about my mother and overall, a wonderful woman, Dona Gloria Velez Alvarez. First off, she was a nurse at the public hospital in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, where she was known in the community and throughout the neighborhood. It seemed like every afternoon someone would come to the house to get an injection and Mom always kept the syringes boiling to the point that at times they couldn’t even be touched. When someone was going to have a baby in the neighborhood, they would come looking for Gloria and if someone had an infection, cut, or needed bandages changed, Mom was the go-to person for the neighborhood.

There would be times where I had to go to an appointment for either the doctor or the dentist and mom would take me to work with her at the hospital. When the appointment was over the nurse, or the assistant would take me back to where mom was working for that day and the other nurses would entertain me by letting me call patients. I think this is where my love for nursing started.

When we started the medical missions, mom would always give me donations of shampoo, hand sanitizer, and other things, and couldn’t wait for me to get back, so that I could tell her all the towns we went to help those in need. Even though she had already seen it all on Facebook.

This is the legacy that my mother left me, and I will continue to follow it for as long as I can.

Our hard-working, good-natured, humble mother taught us to always give without receiving anything in return, because she knew God will take care of the rest.

Even until the end of her life she provided support to our 2023 mission.

Thank You To Our Donors!

The Legacy of Gloria Velez Alvarez

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Incredible Donors!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude as we reflect on the success of the Nurses On The Move Inc's Baranquilla, Colombia Nursing Medical Mission trip. Your support, both in terms of donated items and generous monetary contributions, made this vision a reality.

To those who contributed supplies and items: Your kindness and dedication have not gone unnoticed. From medical equipment to essential supplies, your donations played a vital role in providing critical care to those in need. Your generosity truly knows no bounds.

And to our monetary donors: Your financial support has been the bedrock upon which we built our mission. Your contributions not only helped us reach our goals but also enabled us to expand our reach, ensuring that more communities received the care they deserved.

Together, we made a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals in Colombia. Your contributions translated into healing, hope, and comfort for those who needed it most. From medical consultations, to delivery of desperately needed medical equipment, to health education, we were able to address a wide range of healthcare needs.

But our gratitude goes beyond words. Your trust in our mission and your commitment to making the world a better place inspire us every day. It is your support that fuels our passion for nursing and drives us to continue our work in underserved Hispanic communities. Your generosity doesn't just touch the lives of patients; it ripples through entire communities, leaving a lasting impact. We are deeply humbled by your belief in our cause and your willingness to stand with us in this  endeavor.

As we move forward, let's remember that it is only together, as a community, that we can create positive change. We look forward to your continued support as we strive to make healthcare accessible and compassionate for all.

Once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. You are the heroes behind the scenes, making our medical mission dreams come true
